TV Review: I Am Not Okay With This

This was TV Show #10/20 (#14 overall) that I watched for my 20 for 2020 Challenge. This show was released on Netflix on February 26, 2020.

As a big "It" fan, I have been interested in watching this show since I found out about it. Sophia Lillis and Wyatt Olef definitely were what drew me into this show, but once I saw the trailer I thought it looked interesting.

I thought this was a decent show. It was so short that I definitely don't regret spending my time watching it. Something about the show didn't quite click for me. I think the two plot elements of the show didn't match up pretty well. The supernatural element felt like it was always added in last minute, and wasn't really portrayed to be a main element of the story. I would have just preferred if that was more a focus in the show. It was difficult to tell where the show was going with the story. Each episode would drift its focus to something new that the season's plotline felt a little all over the place.

One huge thing I had an issue with was the voice over! The main character's voice over is completely unnecessary. She would just be reiterating things in her head, that you can clearly see on the screen. It was quite annoying and repetitive for my taste.

One thing that I did really like about the show was the characters. They were definitely what made the show for me. I liked seeing their friendships develop and watching their ups and downs. I liked that the show did a lot of subtle breaking down of stereotypes and defiance of expectations. I think it captured that angsty teen attitude very well and authentically. I liked the music a lot as well.

I did have some problems with the show, but overall I think it was decent. I will probably watch season 2 as well. I'd probably give this a 6/10. Have you seen this show? Let me know your thoughts down below.
