This was TV show #16/20 (#21 overall) that I watched for my 20 for 2020 Challenge. Season 1 was released on Hulu on May 15, 2020.
I really liked this show! I think the sets and costumes were beautiful. The plot was pretty entertaining. There were some moments that I thought were really funny. The cast was great. Elle Fanning absolutely shines. Nicholas Hoult and Elle Fanning are both absolutely perfect for these roles and they have great chemistry together. The entire cast was fantastic. I know some people have some issues with the historical inaccuracies in the show, but it doesn’t advertise itself as something that is historically accurate so I really don’t understand that criticism. I don’t care whether the show is historically accurate or not, but I really like the story they created. I got really emotionally invested in the characters. I don’t think I cried, but I almost cried (this is a good thing). I think the last couple of episodes felt a little rushed, but I still enjoyed them. It ended on such a cliffhanger too! I’m really looking forward to Season 2.
I haven’t really heard anyone talk about this show. I got a lot of commercials for this show which brought it to my attention. I was intrigued by the visuals and the concept of a satirical period piece. I also really like Elle and Nicholas, so that was the deciding factor to get me to watch. I’m really glad I watched this show. This is another hidden gem that I feel like hasn’t gotten the attention it deserves. I would really recommend for people to give this show a try.
I would give this show a 8/10. Have you watched this show? Let me know your thoughts down below.
