TV Review: Grace and Frankie Season 6

This was TV show #4/20 that I watched for my 20 for 2020 challenge. Season 6 was released on Netflix on January 15, 2020.

I have been a pretty big fan of this show, but this season my enjoyment started to go a little downhill a little bit. I think it started getting a little bit too goofy and ridiculous. I feel like the show used to be more realistic and grounded, and filled with zany, wacky characters that still felt real. I think this season, a lot of the characters became caricatures of whatever personality type they represent. I still liked this season, I just do think that it's getting near the end of its life.

I started out this season being very nostalgic, and thinking to myself that I was going to miss it. For probably the entire first half of this season, I thought that this was supposed to be the last season. Then I found out that Season 7 is actually going to be the last season. And that made me kind of disappointed, because I don't want it to end on an even worse note, and I can feel it heading that way. Season 6 was already kind of a turning point for me where the show started losing its heart and original vibe.

In addition to the characters getting a bit more ridiculous this season, I also just thought that a lot of the plot lines and narratives this season were a little boring.

Even though this season went a little downhill, I still feel an attachment to this show. I feel like this show has been really important. I love that the show focuses on these old people and their lives. I can't think of any other show focused on characters of that age other than Golden Girls. I think it's really cool that this show about these retired characters' story can appeal to watchers of all ages. I think it's really cool to show characters of that age that can still have fun, and have lives of their own that aren't focused around kids, grand kids or classic old people activities. But as always, I do love the relationship between Grace and Frankie. They're always the best part. I feel like anyone watching can relate to the four main characters in some way. I'm definitely a Grace, with a little bit of Robert thrown in there.

This season didn't quite live up to my expectations, but I will definitely keep watching the next season. I hope it gets a little more grounded for the final season. I still love the characters and general concept/direction of the show, so I would give Season 6 a 6/10.

Do you watch this show? What did you think of Season 6? Please let me know in the comments. Also let me know whether you are a Grace, Frankie, Robert or Sol.
