As part of my research into the 2019 Grammy's Album of the Year category, I listened to each nominated album 5 times in order to evaluate my own ranking.
Here are some quick stats about When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? by Billie Eilish:
I loveeee this album. I can't say enough positive things about it. I think this album is an innovation, it's an amazing debut.
Although this may be classified as pop, this is unlike anything I have ever heard before. Billie is so weird and odd. And all the distortion and darkness in the music. It's just so interesting and unique.
In the beginning it did take me a few tries to get into it. I thought the songs sounded pretty similar. But eventually they just grew on me and now I love them all. I definitely can see how I thought they sounded similar, because they're all this distinctive style.
I have a lot of favorites, but my top picks are "Bad Guy", "Xanny," and "Wish You Were Gay." There aren't any songs that I dislike.
All of the songs are written by Billie and her brother, Finneas. Two of the songs on the album are written only by Finneas. I think these two working together are magic. They're creating something that is just so out of the box, they're so young and they're doing everything themselves. It's just amazing. Billie has just been a phenomenon. All songs were produced by Finneas as well. While Billie is the artist at the forefront, I think it's pretty well known that her and Finneas are a team. It may just be because they're siblings, but Billie gives him all the credit he deserves. I think it's amazing that an album this popular, this perfect was pretty much made by two people. Another thing to note, is that while Billie and Finneas both play instruments, it's hard to tell if they are playing any of the instruments in the recording.
So overall, I loved it. I will always love it. This is my kind of thing to listen to. I will continue to listen to this album for forever. I look forward to whatever they put out next. I think they're so talented.
