This is album #42/20 that I listened to for my 20 for 2020 challenge. I listened to this album 8 times for my review.
Here are some quick stats about Chromatica by Lady Gaga:
I am a big fan of Lady Gaga. I like her as a person and I just think she is incredibly talented. I am very familiar with all of her albums, except for Artpop (I somehow missed that era). Chromatica was one of my most hyped albums of the year. I loved the Joanne era, but I am glad that Gaga is now getting back to classic pop, with the dancing and the costumes and everything.
I thought this album was good. It didn’t live up to my expectations that I have for Gaga. I don’t think the album shows off her powerful vocals, and I think the songs are pretty basic. I do like the album, it’s just pretty basic pop in my opinion. I think the songs all sound very similar so it did take a little bit of time for me to be able to distinguish the songs from each other. I think there’s a lot of filler songs on this album and we all know that Gaga is a great songwriter (who I believe is capable of so much more). There isn’t much variety between the songs on this album. There weren’t any songs that I dislike. My favorites are “Alice,” “Stupid Love,” “Rain On Me” and “Babylon.” “Rain On Me” is one of the more basic songs but I think Ariana and Gaga’s vocals on that track make it shine through.
Gaga does have a writing credit on each of the songs. Some songs were written by just Gaga and one other person, and some others have 3-11 other writers on it. In addition to this, she has a great voice and is a great performer and dancer. So I commend her effort on this album.
Overall I think this is a good album and I would recommend for people to listen to it, I’m just a little disappointed with it since it’s not up to Gaga’s typical originality and quality. I, of course, will continue to follow Gaga’s projects in the future, and I will probably occasionally listen to this album in full. I would give this album a 6/10. Have you listened to this album?
