This is album #41/20 that I listened to for my 20 for 2020 challenge. I listened to this album 8 times for my review.
Here are some quick stats about Pick Me Up Off The Floor by Norah Jones:
I am vaguely familiar with some of Norah Jones’ past albums. I’m familiar with her popular singles as well. What I’ve heard from her I’ve always really loved. I’m also currently looking for new jazz albums to listen to so this is all why I decided to listen to this album.
I feel like she is such a pioneer and no one really does exactly what she does. I love that she’s still out here doing her thing. Unfortunately for me this album didn’t quite measure up to some of her previous albums, but I still think that this album is still worth listening to. I thought the album was a little boring at first, but with more listens I grew to appreciate it much more. I just love her chill and mellow style. This album is classic Norah Jones. In this album there weren’t many standout songs for me (either positive or negative). My favorite songs were “How I Weep” and “I’m Alive.” I like that there is a decent amount of variety between the songs. Everything is classic Norah Jones, but there are some upbeat songs, slower songs, sad or happy songs, and there are some songs that have a bit of country or rock flavor.
As always I really appreciate it when the main artist writes their own material. Norah Jones was the sole writer on all of these songs, with the exception of four songs that were written by her and one other writer. She also plays piano on all of these songs. She’s so talented to have written all of these songs and I really commend her for that.
I think this is a good chill jazz album. I would definitely recommend it to others. I will definitely be coming back to listen to this album in full. And I will eventually be going back to listen to all of Norah’s previous albums (as well as her future ones). I’d give this album a 6/10. Have you listened to this album? I’d love to hear your thoughts down below.
