This is Album #28/20 that I listened to for my 2020 challenge. I listened to this album 8 times for my review.
Here are some quick stats about The New Abnormal by The Strokes:
I've heard some songs by the Strokes, but I've never listened to a full album. I really like the songs I've heard, and I have a few friends that really love the Strokes so I decided to listen to the album. I had really high hopes and just assumed it would be good.
I really liked this album. There weren't any songs that I disliked, but my favorite song was definitely "The Adults Are Talking." I was completely floored by this song, and was really expecting the rest of the album to be as strong. The rest of the album is definitely great, but "The Adults Are Talking" is by far the standout. This song is probably one of my favorites I've heard this year. The album has a nostalgic element to it for me. It brings me back to the height of indie-rock around 2010. This album is able to be reminiscent of this era, without feeling outdated or repeating old material. It was really easy to enjoy this album. The Strokes have such a distinguishable and definable sound, and it was an absolute pleasure and gift to be immersed in their world. There's nothing else like it. Other than "The Adults Are Talking," my other favorites are "Bad Decisions" and "At The Door." A couple of the other songs are a little indistinguishable for me, but I still like them.
Recommendations: Listen or don't listen? Listen. This is a solid album. It's enjoyable from start to finish, and I think it can be enjoyable for most people. Buy or don't buy? Buy. It's just a great album, and The Strokes are out here single-handedly saving rock music.
I would rate this album a 8/10. I am definitely going to be looking out for their future albums. I'll also be listening to their previous albums. This full album is great and I will definitely continue to listen to it in full, but I'll especially be listening to my favorite couple of songs. Have any of you listened to this album?
