This is Album #3/20 that I listened to for my 2020 challenge. I listened to this album 8 times for my review.
Here are some quick stats about The Archer by Alexandra Savior:
Album #2
Released January 10, 2020 (Last album release 2017)
Album length: 30:00, 10 tracks
Doesn't appear to have charted on the US Billboard 200
Genre: Pop/Rock
Metacritic score: 84/100
This one is a little more difficult to find information about because it is more indie than the others. This album doesn't even have a Wikipedia page.
Here is the track list (*- favorite, Bold- disliked, blank- middle of the road):
Soft Currents
Saving Grace
Crying All The Time
Howl
Send Her Back
Can't Help Myself*
The Phantom
Bad Disease
But You
The Archer
The good thing is that there weren't any songs that I disliked. But a bad thing is that there was only one song that I really liked. "Cant Help Myself" is by far my favorite. It has a cool 60s beach vibe. The rest pretty much blended together. It was all an original sound, but it was kind of hard for me to distinguish between them.
She does sing and play guitar. And it appears that she writes her own songs. She has a pretty unique singing voice and style of music. It's always really important to me to see that an artist writes their own material and plays their own instruments. The album has a lot of 60s influence. What's really cool to me is that it's not just influence, it almost sounds like it could have authentically been from the 60s. It had a lot of cool instrumentation in it, a lot of horns for example. Her singing voice sounds a lot to me like a mix of Billie Eilish and Lana Del Rey.
I did like this album, but each individual song doesn't really stand out to me. I recognize that this album requires a lot more talent, creativity and work from the main artist than other mainstream works do (like Halsey and Selena Gomez, which I recently reviewed). However, my ratings are based off of how i enjoyed the album. I have good memories of this album and I have one song from it that I will continue to listen to. But each track individually hasn't been memorable. I may come back and listen to this album occasionally. I am rating this album a 6/10.
If you like oldies, I would recommend checking this one out. Have you listened to it? Let me know your thoughts down below.
