This is Album #11/20 that I listened to for my 2020 challenge. I listened to this album 8 times for my review.
Here are some quick stats about Miss Anthropocene by Grimes:
I was actually pleasantly surprised with this album. I went through a rollercoaster of emotions. I knew a few Grimes songs before this album came out, so I was excited to give the full album a try. When I first listened to it, I absolutely HATED it. I thought it was so weird. After the first couple of listens, I literally never wanted to listen to it ever again. But eventually it started to grow on me, and now I really like it.
Here's a breakdown of the tracklist:
So Heavy I Fell Through The Earth
Darkseid
Delete Forever*
Violence*
4/EM
New Gods
My Name Is Dark*
You'll Miss Me When I'm Not Around
Before The Fever
Idoru
(Bold- dislike, *- like)
I still absolutely HATE "Darkseid" and I will never like it. It's way too out there for me. It scares me. And I just didn't like "4/EM" because it was a little boring and didn't seem to really fit in with the rest of the album. But, I do really like a few songs on the album. The rest are mostly average to me.
Just another random note, I really hate the album cover.
I really appreciate the risks that Grimes is taking here. Even though "Darkseid" is probably one of the worst songs I've had to listen to for this challenge, "Violence" and "Delete Forever" are some of my favorites I've had to listen to for this challenge. I would recommend "Delete Forever" to everyone. I would recommend people to give this album a chance, but I would strongly caution them that it is pretty odd. I will probably go back and listen to her previous albums. I will also look out for her future work. I would give this album a 7/10.
