This is Album #23/20 that I listened to for my 2020 challenge. I listened to this album 8 times for my review.
Here are some quick stats about Calm by 5 Seconds of Summer:
I liked this album. There were no songs that I disliked. My favorites were "Red Desert," "No Shame" and "Wildflower." "No Shame" is by far my favorite, it's so good! I was pleasantly surprised with this album. I was expecting something more boy band, One Direction-ish, but they definitely have a more mature sound. While I had my favorite songs, the rest of the songs kind of blended together but I definitely didn't think they were bad. This album definitely has some songs that are/will be big hits, but those songs were a little too basic for me.
Most of the songs are written by the boys with help from other writers. They do play their own instruments too which makes them more of a band band rather than a boy band, which is cool.
Recommendations:
Listen or don't listen? Listen. I definitely think this is a solid pop album. Most people would enjoy it I'd say.
Buy or don't buy? Don't buy. I don't think the full album has enough bops to warrant buying the album.
I'd give this album a 6/10. I liked it, but there were only a few stand out songs for me. I might go back and listen to the full album again, but I definitely will be listening to my favorite songs. I would definitely recommend for people to listen to this album, and I'm interested in listening to 5SOS's future and previous albums. Have you listened to this album?
