Movie review: Onward

This was movie #3/20 that I reviewed for my 20 for 2020 challenge. This movie was released on March 6, 2020.

This movie was one of my most hyped movies of the year. I go see almost every Disney and Pixar movie. I was especially excited for this one because it's the first original (non-sequel) Pixar movie since Coco's release in 2017.

I think I was a little disappointed in this movie, but I can't really put into words why I feel this way. I did feel emotionally invested in the characters, and I cried so much at the emotional climax, but something about the movie left me wanting more.

I definitely still liked the movie, and would recommend people to go see it. It's a Disney/Pixar movie, so it's definitely going to be good. It was just on the lower end of Pixar films, in my opinion. But I also want to commend Disney/Pixar for going back to original concepts. The trend towards remakes and sequels these days is annoying, especially with what Disney has been doing lately (Remaking things that don't need to be remade, and in a way that isn't adding anything new). So I at least appreciate the attempt at making an original movie.

I think this concept would have worked better as a TV show. They still could make it into a TV show. I feel like there was such a dense, diverse world to explore that we didn't get to see enough of. We would see two seconds of all these different creatures and worlds, and then the scene would cut away to the next creature or concept. The world is so rich with characters and creatures and quests that its just impossible to fit all of that in a two hour movie. I think it would do well as a TV show where they can go on different quests every episode and meet different creatures.

I would probably give this a 6/10. Have any of you watched this movie? Let me know your thoughts down below.
