March Recap

Here's a recap of all the things I read, watched and listened to during March. This list will include things I haven't finished, 2020 media that I have finished as well as non 2020 media that I've finished. I usually don't write reviews for anything non 2020, so I thought this would be a good place to talk about them. Here I can also post about anything I rewatched, which I also usually don't write reviews for. It's mostly a chance for me to quickly discuss anything I haven't already talked about for the month, but also to recap everything that I did watch/listen to.

I also thought that a recap/in progress log would be a good idea to post just so I can keep everyone filled in. Otherwise you wouldn't know what I'm currently watching until it the review has been posted. Also I don't post reviews for things that came out earlier than 2020, so I thought this would be a good place to maybe do some mini reviews of anything 2019 or earlier that I have thoughts about.

I didn't watch too many non 2020 media this month. Pretty much the only things are High Life and Looking for Alaska. I'll have a brief discussion on each below.

High Life (2018):

I decided to watch since I had heard some buzz about it, it's an A24 movie and of course a main draw was that Robert Pattinson is in it. It also has Mia Goth, and I really loved her in Suspiria. I had heard that this was a horror movie, so I was a little disappointed that it wasn't scary at all. But I guess I can't hold that against the movie though, because when googling it now it's classified as Sci-fi/Adventure.

I thought the movie was okay. It was a little boring to me, but it wasn't too bad. I also feel that it was missing a lot of tension and suspense. It should have been really easy to build up that tension, but it didn't at all which was a little disappointing. But overall those are my thoughts. I just thought it was okay.

Looking for Alaska (2019):

I watched this show because I read the book. I read the book in 2012, so I don't remember too much about it. I can't really speak to how similar the show is to the book since I don't remember the book very well. This was a very highly anticipated movie/show for a lot of us fans, since there has been rumors of a movie or show adaptation for awhile now and Looking for Alaska is a very popular John Green book. It's one of my favorite books of all time, and it's a favorite for a lot of people. One thing I can say is that the vibe of the show was very faithful to the book. The feeling that I felt reading the book was the same feeling that was portrayed in the show. The characters/casting for the main characters Miles and Alaska was a little bit different than what I pictured in my head. But I think they did a good job.

The show felt very pretentious to me. But that's definitely how the book/John Green is in general, and that's why I loved the book. So it definitely was faithful to the source material, I just might have grown out of it. I also just thought this show was okay.

So those are all of the things that I watched/listened to in March. I won't be going any more in depth than that, because I'll be posting a Quarter 1 (January-March) 2020 recap where I'll talk about my favorites. Do you have any recommendations of anything coming out in April that I should watch or listen to?
