At this point I should have finished 10 of each category. I'm still a little bit ahead in TV shows, I've already made my goal for albums and I am slightly behind for books and movies (which are both at 7). I will need to play a little bit of catch up over the next few months. There are a lot more 2020 movies and books to choose from now, so it should be easy for me to find something that I'll really like.

I post reviews for all 2020 releases, so below is a discussion of anything non-2020 that I want to mention and talk about.

The Ring:

I really liked this movie! I thought it was pretty scary for a PG-13 movie. I didn't know exactly what this was about, but I did know that this is considered to be a modern classic horror movie. I thought it was pretty different from typical horror movies. There was lot of mystery in unraveling the story behind the video tape and I thought it was super interesting. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I think it was a really well-made movie, and has aged really well.

Marriage Story:

I also really liked this movie. For me, it wasn't as depressing as people made it out to be. It wasn't exactly what I expected, but I still really liked it. I thought it would be more of their story from beginning to end, or the story of their divorce with some flashbacks to them together, but what I thought was interesting was there weren't really any shots of them while they were actually together and in a happy relationship. Even though we never actually saw them together like that, we still were able to see how close they were and how much they knew about each other. The story was pretty normal and mundane, but I still thought it was really captivating to watch. I do think it left a little bit to be desired in the sense of drawing a strong emotional connection to the characters and the story for me. The cast was great, but my favorite was definitely Adam Driver. This is another Netflix movie that you can really see the care that went into creating it. This one was definitely a quality watch.

Now for my monthly favorites (in no particular order):

  • The Ring. I was really surprised with how much I liked this movie. This one definitely stuck with me for a few days after I watched it.

  • It Is What It Is, Thundercat. This album was really innovative and creative and was really fun for me to listen to.

  • good to know, jojo. I really liked this album as well. Jojo is just a really captivating performer and her vocals are unreal.

  • Petals For Armor, Hayley Williams. As a huge Paramore fan, this was a hugely anticipated album for me. There are some really good tracks on this album.

And that's it for the June recap! Do you have any thoughts on the things I discussed above? Let me know down below.
